Book Club

We currently have Book Clubs running for children in Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 and  Years 7&8.

Part of the purpose of book club is to introduce you all to new and unusual books that you may not have heard of before. Therefore Ruby, Peter and Julia carefully read through and choose original books for each age group to read that month. In doing so we hope that each book is something that we will enjoy discussing in our book club meeting, and you can go on to share with your friends.

We look for stories that we can’t stop reading, that take us to new worlds or different experiences. Most of all, we want to read books that inspire us to talk about them, and that will stay in our thoughts long after we’ve finished.

Book Club Membership

Rewards for reading

As a member, we ask that you commit to reading the book we give you each month. This not only means that we have more engaging book club sessions, but you have more fun. You might not love all the books we choose – but some of our most interesting debates happen when we don’t all agree, and if you haven’t read the book it’s hard to join in.

Try new things

As part of our book club you will get the chance to ask authors questions directly, whether that is through Skype conversations or twitter. Book club is an environment where you will meet new people in both the real world and the books that you read.

Get news first

You’ll get first news of any special events being held at the shop – in the past we’ve had visits from award-winning author Katherine Rundell, Ivy & Bean illustrator Sophie Blackall, and the UK editor of Wonder, Natalie Doherty. As a part of book club there are often exclusive author events you are invited to.

Discount on books

If you are a member of Ottie and the Bea’s Book Club you are entitled to a 10% discount on any books you buy from the shop.

Join our Book Club

Book club membership is £15 per session (which is 1 hour long), this includes refreshments during the session and the copy of the book for that session. If you would like to join the Book Club, email us and we can send you a copy of our application form, alternatively you can pop into the shop and ask for an application form.
